The course is designed to provide small business lenders the tools, knowledge and skills to screen, analyse, underwrite, structure and monitor loans to small and medium enterprises. The methods include working with small businesses that have “substandard” financial information. The course was designed by Shore Bank Advisory Services, Chicago in collaboration with the Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services. This course is suitable for: • Managers of credit departments. • Bank branch manager. • Branch supervisors. The course is designed to cover the following: • Introduction to SME lending and the importance of the cash flow. • Step by step: The loan process. • Management, Market and Money (The 3M’s). • Financial statement analysis for lenders (income statement and balance sheet). • Ratios, loans structuring, closing. • Loan documentation. • Portfolio management. • Monitoring and managing problem loans. • Marketing and sales of loans. At the end of this program, participants will be able to: • Understand the business lending environment. • Conduct a practical analysis of the credit risk of a loan proposal. • Develop a loan structure to serve both borrower and lender. • Appreciate the process of loan monitoring and credit risk management. • Propose actions required for credit risk management.
